Did you use the Raspbian repository: http://www.mono-project.com/download/#download-lin-raspbian ?
The Pi Zero uses an ARMv6 CPU and as far as I know we don't support that in our Debian packages.

You can install your repository on a Raspberry Pi 2 and 3. But it did not
work on a Pi Zero.
Should I create a bug report for that scenario, too?
