[Mono-list] How to read a JPG into a 2D array of colors?

I'm looking for ways around Unity's www class because a call to load a
1200x1200 jpg can add like a 60 mb spike to RAM usage! Then it pulls back
and resides around 30-40 mb RAM usage. Sounds quite funky? I know. I have no
idea what the hell unity is doing internally to cause such a thing.
