[Mono-ue] Error when launching XamarinStudio from Unreal Editor on OS X

I set up Mono for Unreal as described, compiled the editor with Xcode 6.1
without any problems. I can create a new Mono class for the project, but
when I try to open the class in XamarinStudio I get the following error

Could not load project 'Source/MyProjectMono/MyProjectMono.csproj' with
unknown item type '{AE3DEEA0-4A95-41F6-B9AC-AF2CCF420B89}'

I'm using XamarinStudio 5.5.4 (Build 15). Has anyone seen a similar error
